Well, it depends on both the maxis hair and the hair you're replacing it with. Basically, the replacement hair can't have more groups than the original. But also, the groups need to have the same name. Most of the time, the groups are called hair, hair_alpha3, hair_alpha5, hair_alpha7, etc. But sometimes the replacement hair (if it does have few enough groups) will have groups that are called hairalpha3 (without the '_') and that'll have to be changed for it to work. I use Milkshape to do that, but if you don't have Milkshape, I think you can also use SimPE

I really do not understand hair defaulting with all the groups and stuff @__@ Is there a way to tell which hairs are more likely to work?
