This week I had my choral conducting graduate course all week from 9-4, and it just flew by! Even though the books cost me an arm and a leg, it was a really helpful course. I took away a lot of new techniques and information that I can use in the classroom come next fall. And the best was that we didn't have class today because we had class from 9-9 on Wednesday. We got to try out our conducting on our professor's church choir, which was super helpful. A long day, but really helpful.
Okay so I learned that once you have achieved being on someone's good side, you will always be on their good side. Well, atleast with the registration and advising specialist Mary Ann in TU's music department. Mary Ann was one of those people who held our degree progress in her hands, and you wanted to make sure that you were always on top of things, if you wanted her to do you little favors. For example, like get you into the theory class of the professor of your choice, or let you sign up for your recitals even if you waited too long and registered late. Well I was lucky that Mary Ann loved me, and I truly think my undergraduate experience was so successful because of her organizational help.
Now that I have been working on my master's, I stop in occasionally to say "hello" and give her a hug and visit. Well, the time has come when I needed a favor from Mary Ann. So I find her new office yesterday and we have a welcome reunion and chat a little. Then I bring up my favor, which is to register for voice lessons on a specific day, and the deadline has passed. God bless my connections because she was like "no problem, contact Dr. (will leave nameless), he is heading up the voice department, cc me on the email, and I will get you registered before fall". AWESOME! And the best is I watched an undergrad student in the spring come in and ask for a favor and she was like "TOO BAD! You missed the deadline!". Ha ha! 6 years after I graduated and I still have it!
So today I am running a million errands: stopped in at the community college to scope out my camp routine for next week, ran to staples, picked up my contacts, deposited my tuition check from carroll (which will be withdrawn by TU in less than a week!), and now ending at panera where I am catching up on numerous emails, doing research, and having some good grub.
I'm heading to Jill's for the weekend again, which will be lots of fun!
