So I made the profile on a free dating site. First few bites were duds. Got a wink from one guy, read it, but didn't respond. I didn't have anything to say at the moment. Got a second message from him not even 10 minutes later. One sentence, in which he called me a vulgar name. My only guess is because I didn't respond to his wink. I decided ( Read more... )

Yuck, that's terrible! People are idiots. Obviously he's just a bored jerk. That's kind of the trouble of those free websites, I guess :/

You definitely have to weed out the perv/jerks but my advice (as someone who has used the dating websites frquently) is reply to as many people as you possibly can. Sometimes even when the pic/profile is "eh" or you'd definitely pass if you were looking, sometimes it's their conversation that snares you in and says "hmmm maybe this guy is more interesting than I thought!" I'm telling ya - Paul the 1st - who I dated almost 2 years - I met on match.com. His pic was so dark I couldn't see his face and he barely had any info on his profile but we emailed back and forth for almost 2 weeks and it was the most fun I've ever had emailing and then we decided to meet and boy, was I glad I did!

Plus the conversations help you weed out the ones who will call you names, or say sexual things in your 1st conversation, or in my case...will help weed out guys with terrible spelling/grammar because to me that means they're dumber than dirt :-)
