Lessons from unlikely sources

So I made the profile on a free dating site. First few bites were duds. Got a wink from one guy, read it, but didn't respond. I didn't have anything to say at the moment. Got a second message from him not even 10 minutes later. One sentence, in which he called me a vulgar name. My only guess is because I didn't respond to his wink. I decided the best response was no response from me, and deleted the message. Still, it really bothered me someone would say that to a stranger. It made me think of some things I say to my students. I'm usually trying to redirect them or show them why they should or shouldn't do something. Never do I outright call them names - but do call some of their actions or decisions dumb. Words can teach lessons, but they can also be really offensive. So, I must be careful what I say, even more than I already try to be.

Got a few better bites today, but still haven't responded to the guys. I'm chicken, yo.
