Yay, so first off I wanna point to a post I made dated December 22,2006 about seeing The Killers on Jay Leno:
Leno was great! the highlight was getting in to sit for soundcheck...we caught Brandon in the process of writing a new song. He was at his synth, fiddling around, singing this gorgeous song and then Ronnie burst in, got behind the drums, and gave it a tremendous beat. It sounded like GOLD. That song will be GOLD. All it needs is a good bass line and an understated guitar riff because that song, the atmosphere that it provoked, sounds like it should emphasize the drum and bass. But what do I know.
So...I got Sawdust yesterday, and when I got to the song Sweet Talk, I got kinda confused. Like...when did Ronnie decide to go r'n'b? The drums stood out to me...and then I realized I recognized the beat, and I couldn't remember from where...so I assumed that they'd just stolen it from David Bowie like they always do. But then I started recognizing lyrics, and my brain (which remembers things better than I do) got a flash of Brandon at his keyboard asking people if they had a pen in a southern accent. And then I was like...where did this happen...
Then I heard the word "shackle" (which was the word that made me think of Mary J. Blige during soundcheck) and I thought OMFG!
This is the song we heard them write at Leno!!!
Seriously! I never thought they'd actually use it...I thought they were just bored...and I remember being stoked that we simply got to see their writing process...
So I got pretty happy at that. And now I'm gloating.
Robyn, Suzy, Irma and I got to see them start writing this song, which makes us better than everyone in the world. Even the band itself, who wrote the bloody song (It's my current favorite. Not just because I saw them writing it, but the thought of Ronnie in an r'n'b video makes me really happy. I'm thinking Boys II Men...)
