I'm kinda amused by the uproar surrounding that one guy's insinuation that UC Santa Cruz is the worst school in America...
I personally take it as a compliment, seeing as this report was on FOX NEWS. And the only reason the guy (who was on Hannity and Colmes) was saying this is because he alleges our liberal arts department is way too leftist, way too unamerican, anti-capitalist, pro-Soviet Union (When are they going to get over that, really? The Societ Union FELL! Find someone else to rage against!) etc...
Obviously, that man has never sat in a class taught by Samuel Decanio.
Sam Decanio is perhaps the best professor I've ever had, and he pissed everyone off because he came off as such a capitalist. But it was hard to argue with him because he was completely right. He wasn't a complete rightist...yet he wasn't a leftist either. He was a Samist. Yes. He has his own little ideology...actually, let me rephrase that. He is anti-ideology...anyone who reads Phillip Converse will eventually learn to scorn ideology. But that's another thing.
The point of this is that people should learn to take any antagonism from Fox News as a compliment, because those people have less than half a brain to beging with.
Although, I must admit that the Latin American Latino Studies department at my school is atrocious! (As it is in every other univeristy.) Everyone there is ready to lay down their lives for Fidel Castro, who is an imbecile. And yeah, I do admit I am sick of discussing Lenin and Trotsky at Breakfast, but other than that, my school is allright. I think my professors are pretty unbiased. And I study POLITICAL SCIENCE.
