Stupidest Thing Ever

Who's bright idea was it for me to take a chemistry class online???

Oh, yeah, that would be me.

I'm looking at the coursework and the assignments and it's all very, very overwhelming. Not the class itself, because I remember probably 30-40% of it from high school, but the amount of work involved.

Why can't I just study, and be tested once every week? Huh? I'm learning, really, why do I have to prove it in six different ways?

*sighs*

In the mean time... some drabbles, because it's college and I can't help but procrastinate:

Here

"You're not there."

Jayne looked up sharply from where he knelt over the body of the man she killed. "What're you mumblin' about now?" He grumbled, tugging open the man's shirt to find the throwing knives hidden in his belt.

Good quality. Balanced just right. He twisted the knife around in his hand, testing it.

"You're not there," she repeated, standing over him.

He made a face, and gathered the knives in one hand before wrapping them in in fabric. He handed them to River, "Your kill, your weapons."

She didn't take 'em. Just stood stock still, staring at him like she didn't understand. Not even the breeze disturbed her hair. He hated it when she did that.

"Fine," he set the bundle aside, and went back to stripping the dead man.

"You're not there!" She insisted.

"Don't know what you're talking about, River. An' I know you can make sense when ya wanna, so talk plain or get." He smirked, "You can guess which I'd prefer."

Her words rush out, tight and pleading, like she can't hold 'em in. "You aren't there, when you look. Wrong all wrong. Always looking but it wont change. It's fluid and flexible and different. You have to understand you aren't there. Army of wrong in the men and the man and would you listen for one gorram minute? You're wrong and you're not there." She's near to crying now and he can't figure how he managed that, "They're all empty when you reach them. You were never there, and they were always empty. Look, Jayne! Look. You're not there. Filled you up and created you from them and it's good. You're not there, never were."

"Oh yeah?" He snorted, looking back at the dead man, a flash of his future all laid out. "Then where am I?"

She puts her hands on his cheeks, forcing his eyes back to him. Hers are shining bright with tears, and he thinks it's all kinds of wrong that something so sad should be so pretty.

"Here."

River/Jayne/Porn
Jayne dropped into his bunk with a grunt and a heavy sigh after the job was complete. Hadn't been an' easy one. But not many were these days. He lifted his bandolier over his head and nearly dropped it when he found River sitting cross legged on his bed.

On his bed.

Looking at his porn.

"What are you..."

She turned the page, her eyes widening with interest. "Studying."

"Studying for what?"

"You."

Zoe/Jayne/Shopping
Zoe released an exasperated sigh and grabbed Jayne's arm, hauling him away from the fruit stall. "We don't have time for window shopping, Jayne."

He gazed longingly back at the booth, "But..."

"No buts, we have a job."

He sighed, dutifully falling into step behind her.

She threaded her way through the crowded market place, and the next time she looked back, the mercenary had disappeared. "That quong fu de faihua!"

She searched through the crowd, marveling how someone of Jayne's size could simply disappear.

Turning to back the way they'd come, she stopped just short of walking into him. "Where did you--"

He gave her a boyish grin and offered her an orange.
