I give to you,
seferin 's post on
Superbowl Sexism and A Response. I'm not sure which is the cake and which is the icing. Maybe it's just two really awesome cupcakes w/ icing. Either way, it just explains exactly how I fucking feel re: sexism against women in commercials (and really against those who are not white, cisgendered males from a Western society), objectification (as in, turning women into objects*) of women, as well as the freaking suggestiveness commercials take on. Seriously, have you people seen the movie series "Killing Us Softly"? I think they are up to four movies now. Personally in school I saw number 2. Commercials are fucking horrifying when you see how they're trying to rope you in, and it's not just showing a happy stay-at-home mom and her family in a freaking Bounce commercial.
For the record, I have seen the original Dodge commercial which invoked the response, as well as the above video from Youtube. All I could say was "If that's all the problems you have, Mr Dodge Commercial Men, I wish I could have your fucking life".
* Actually, the first couple of minutes of
Killing Us Softly 3 contains imagery where women are literally the objects themselves, or are turned into objects by looking like the particular object and being "branded". And people wonder why our cultural view of how women should look and be treated is so fucked up?
sihaya09 also
made a very good post on the original Dodge ad aired during the Superbowl, pretty much publically calling out the people who did this commercial, along with the people who think its "okay" for this commercial to be "right". She also does it in a way that is funny-mocking in the sense of "Holy fuck what is wrong with you people?!". Yeah, that kind of humour.
