A Special Kind of Digital Archaeology

It bugs me a lot whenever I see people comment on FA to the effect of complaining that an artist hasn't rendered a character "anatomically correct" if they don't have an animal cock.

First, let's set aside the matter that anatomical correctness, when it comes to imaginary two-legged animal-people, is not something that's set in stone. Second, one person's own personal taste in sexual aesthetics is no more "correct" than another's.

Most importantly, though, is that this attitude is prevalent enough that it's kind of obvious that a lot of furs out there either don't realize (or don't remember) that animal cocks on furry characters didn't used to be a de rigueur thing.

And that got me thinking.

I almost want to delineate different times in furry art history into striations along the lines of archaeology and paleontology. So like, right now, we're in the middle of the Animal-Cock Period, but before this, we were in the Sonic Fan-Character Period.

Dig below that, and you get into the Anubis Period, which is just slightly after the Chester Period (which overlaps a fair bit with the Falstaff Period). Earlier still, we get into the truly archaic Minerva Mink Period, and time immemorial beyond.
