So, I never got around to writing up a con report for Further Confusion this year. That's a shame, because it was an awesome convention. I blame my lack of coherent post-writing on my not having taken many pictures at all.
Still, despite being several weeks ago, I can still give y'all the "highlights reel" version of my con experience.
On Wednesday night,
keto_galin invited me to a room party where there was a Smash Bros. Brawl fest going on. Having just recently spent a big chunk of Christmas break Smashing it up with my old buddies back east, I was eager to bust some heads. Unfortunately, it turned out to be some kind of bullshit hacked ROM of Brawl that I had never played before and so I got my ass kicked. Bleh. At least I got to hang out with cool people and drink booze and eat tasty pizza.
Thursday afternoon is when I actually got my own room at the con. I drove down with
tealfox to get settled for the pre-con festivities. Unfortunately,
hbruton was under the weather and couldn't join us for our traditional pre-con Ethiopian dinner at Zeni down in Campbell, but we did at least have
drab_makyo and his poor, poor, very sleepy boyfriend. And the meal was good.
Later that night, the live band in the hotel lobby made
athelind's ears burst.
It was on Friday that most of the out-of-towners showed up. Special shout-outs to the adorable
atariwolf, the party-rific
drenthecoon, and
Weasel Wordsmith's own Lovejoy, who helped save many a wayward party.
fuzzwolf and
teirandragon of
furplanet were busy helping to bring the written word to the furry fandom, much in the same way as
brerandalopex of
sofawolf (who also sold my new book!). Furry publishers are great to hang out with and party with, by the way.
nachtfuchs and the other German furs kept me up super-late drinking. It was kind of awesome.
On Saturday, if I recall correctly, I had my book signing for The Seventh Chakra, which was just amazing. Of course, my first book release will always be a special thing, but for my second go-around, just seeing that people were lining up for my book was a feeling unlike any other. Even thinking about it now, weeks later, it makes me giddy.
There was more mingling and partying that night. Just like any good con, really.
There was a big room party on Sunday night that was full of furfaggotry and singing along with Lady GaGa. It was pretty epic. The rest of the day was pretty cool, too, of course, and there was a nice dinner full of Thai food where poor
confusedoo got outgeeked at the dinner conversation. But I think the drinking afterwards helped make up for it.
All in all, a pretty good con, one of the better ones I've been to in a while. And despite my poor recap of events, there really was more than just drinking.
And tomorrow (yikes, tomorrow!), I'm heading out for Furry Fiesta! Oh, I'm ready for it (come on bring it).
