Suikoden I & II
So I actually finished SI last week *waves pompoms* YAY Finally ANOTHER game to add to the done list!! (And not the stupid waiting list T_T *guilt*)
Lots of little spoilers here. Especially in SII O_o
I don't have a LONG list, unlike SIII and SV and ST, (And the one developing in SII >_>) I still have people I love though.
1) Viktor - Yes, number one. He had me at, "Leave it to me! *runs to set the mansion on fire to distract the guards* What are you talking about? I didn't do anything." This is further getting compounded by SII, especially since I get to see even MORE of his lovely background, which was only glossed over in SI.
2) Mathiu - *sigh* Maybe I really just have a huge THING for the Suikoden strategists. They haven't failed to make my lists yet. All four Suikodens so far! SI, SIII, SV and ST. I'll figure out Shu from SII soon enough, but even Apple is just <3 right now.
He's so calm and so wonderful, and even though the game wasn't so emotional for me, the end nearly broke my heart. T_T
3) Futch - He's... so adorable. The very little they showed of him in SI was enough for me to add to the love I already had for him in SIII.
4) Clive - He has no back story in SI. Why do I like him? One mere fact: When you speak to him on top of the HQ in SI, he says "I must find her." ... Who is this HER? Gosh, I just know I'll love you in SII now. And... I was right! But we're trying to adhere to the fact that it's only an SI list so far.
... NO GIRLS~! THAT JUST SUCKS DOESN'T IT??
OH And Flik is not on the list. Yes. He's not. The reason is that I was miffed at him hating me after his beloved died. And further miffed at him insisting that they should march onward, even though Mathiu told them to recon first. I do admit to giving him heartfelt Kya's~ when they found out that they were betrayed from the beginning, and he nearly sliced the traitor's neck, especially since he was responsible for her death. And dared to speak of her love for Flik. Gah, that scene...!
And there was further redemption when he took an arrow for you on the way out from the castle. I really didn't want to leave him and Viktor behind T____T
Though that scene would have been much more "OH NOOOOOOO~~!!!" if I didn't already know they'd be back in SII. Ah the pains of having played the sequel first.
The very last scene gripped me though T_T Mathiu...!!! He didn't even want to be a part of this...!! And... he didn't even get to enjoy it...! *sooooooooooooooob*
Honestly, though, as a story, SI is pretty mediocre, compared to its sequels. For its time, I suppose, it's good enough.
On the OTHER hand, I'm still quite glad I played this... Because it paved the way to.... Suikoden II!
And here we are in Suikoden II, where there's excitement and drama from the get-go. From the massacre of your camp by your own captain, to that promise to come back to that spot and the leap into the unknown...
To Viktor and Flik finding you (And NOT TELLING ANYONE HOW THEY SURVIVED A BURNING CASTLE OVERRUN BY IMPERIAL SOLDIERS), with Jowy and Riou eventually reuniting,
To retrieving Nanami, but nearly getting executed, only to be saved by Viktor and Flik again.
To the razing of Toto Village. Followed by the massacre at Ryube and the EVIL of Luca Blight. To the destruction of your own fort.
To the acquisition of the Rune of Beginning (Well fine, the Black Sword and Bright Shield Runes) which I LOVED because the flashbacks there reflected my actual dialogue choices through the game O_O Riou's not such a silent hero for a while there XD
To the first Sindar Ruins with Hilda and Alex, to running away to Muse, then Jowy's capture... And that awful scene with Nanami, Riou and Pilika waiting outside for him... Gaaaaaaah~!!
And finally the betrayal... I just couldn't help keeping Riou kind to Jowy, even if it's a bit more heartbreaking that way. I knew of the betrayal. I'm also pretty sure there's something going on that I don't know yet.
The scene with Viktor and Annabelle drinking into the night before Jowy arrived... Oh gawd. It made her death so much worse than Odessa's. Viktor, why are you so much LOVE?
Playing through SII, I'm starting to realize the main reason I loved Flik was that the situations he ends up in were all hilarious. Viktor isn't as fun as he used to be either. Though those scenes with Neclord... GAHHHHHH~!! <3<3 I wub you Viktor~!
Yes, I'm past that. I'm already the leader because Shu said I should be. (Speaking of that, the scenes with Apple begging Shu were heartbreaking. Because I love Apple. And it all knocked Shu down some pegs of love)
I'm about to run off to Lakewest.
And I'm struggling because I want to just play it the whole day. And at the same time, I don't want to finish the game so soon. Huhuhuhuhuuu!!
As for lists, I don't have an official one yet. Especially because I'm swarmed with candidates so early in the game.
Viktor is on the list of course. Clive is probably going to officially make it when I get him and help him out with Elza. Shu is a possibility (Strategist *sigh*). And Richmond is fun, too. And Apple is definitely getting on the female list (cute, because she's on my SIII list).
I kinda wanna put Kinnison on the list... Because he's cute. And has a pretty wolf. Pretty pretty wolf. But I don't have much more reason to because I won't see more of his character (and he's not as much love as Richard was in battle). Well, we'll see.
I think I might special mention Jowy. I know people hate him but... well... we'll see (again).
A lot of characters are actually pretty cool (*pointed look at Oulan*) @_@ In SI, they were... really just props for me. SII excels so much in where SI lacked. In SI, I was going after Barbarossa because the game pushed me in that direction. In SII, they really make you HATE Luca Blight. Hate him, terribly.
Still, it's just lots of <3 whenever you see familiar faces. And seeing the familiar faces interact with one another.
Stallion, in particular, had me surprised when I saw him running around in Radat. I was like "Whoa! O_o Stallion??"
Nyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah I WANT CLIVE ALREADY!!
I loved it when Apple yelled at Viktor for not telling them that they were alive XD And then, Flik in turn, yelled at Viktor for not keeping in contact.
And bringing Tai Ho to Viktor was loads of fun, seeing them snarl at each other. Even when Luc arrived with the tablet and snarked at Viktor and Flik. And of course, I want to bring Viktor and Flik when I get Hix and Tengaar. And maybe when I make it all the way to Gregminster as well.
Even just Sheena, yelling at Tai Ho to bring him across the lake, was a laughtrip for me, especially since Sheena was an OPTIONAL recruit in SI. Then again, so was Apple XD
AHhhh Suikoden. How I love you. Now if only SIV would work, even though I know it's the lamest one of the five.
I think I'm ranking it SV, SII and SIII, SI, then SIV >_>
(I don't think I should put Tierkreis in the ranking xD, but if I do, maybe it's about between SII/SIII and SI.)
