Now to move on to Suikoden I

May 06, 2009 09:39

Hmm... I understand the novelty of the game, but after the epicness of Suikoden Tierkreis (Oh wait. I just said that I was going to call it just Tierkreis and strip it of its Suikoden name), maybe i'm a bit numb already o_o

It's just funky because I'm about halfway through the game already (or so the FAQ/Walkthrough I've been using purely as a Recruitment FAQ suggests) and... I don't even have lists...! o___o

.. My list contains Viktor. That's about it.

Flik might have made it, but his behavior immediately before and after his recruitment knocked him down several pegs.

(I know this might change in SII, though. I remember loving Flik more than Viktor over there...)

I'll forgive the game though, as it was the first one. Maybe I wouldn't be so delusional about the game if I hadn't already gone through II (only halfway), III and V. Or maybe I just had put my expectations too high.

I'm not saying that I don't enjoy the game. It's still got the Gotta Catch Em All! part, of course... Except that there's actually not much to recruitment 0_o;; I'm not saying it's overly simple (Just talk to the person to recruit... but ALL the games are like that.) It's just that "Oh~! You're that guy? Okay I'll join!" doesn't really give much backstory... 0_o;

But maybe that's how it's related to the story. People are just sick of the Empire...

Or maybe I'm just so stuck on how EVERYBODY in SV was related to the plot by at the most three degrees... (Though they weren't that way in SIII either... @.@)

... On the other hand. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR!! It's frikkin hard because you have to guess what the enemy has to do! Not that I hate it... It's just really hard unless you have ninjas and thieves... @.@

Oh and Duels~~! I'm so glad to see this around again :D Though it's freakier to Duel here because apparently your character stats actually MATTERED here.

I'm not sure why, but... Gremio's death didn't affect me as much as it should have. Although, that could be because the stupid FAQ I'm using apparently isn't SPOILER-FREE. On the OTHER hand, it was really... random. In a way.

.. Maybe if there were more plot characters involved, it would have been more emotional...

... Or maybe if I didn't already know that you could revive him in the future (STUPID FAQ. STUPID STUPID STUPID STUPID FAQ. YOU DON'T DO THAT TO A PERSON. YOU JUST DON'T.)

The way he died though was... o_o oh. GAWD. Now THAT was terrible. It makes me wonder HOW he'll be revived.

... Hm. Sayang. I think the death would have hit me a lot more otherwise. It really should have been an emotional moment. Come to think of it, now I DON'T understand why it didn't hit me. Esp. considering the events in ST slapped me hard and I really almost cried. Baka yun nga. Kasi alam ko nang babalik naman siya >_>

Or maybe I was also emotional about the events in ST because the voice acting was so wonderful... The hero screaming like that kinda gets to you... 0_0

Also, the death of Teo McDohl... um... >_> I KILLED MY OWN DAD?? ARE YOU SERIOUS???

There's also the death of Odessa... That... actually was pretty bad. I didn't choke up over it, but it was awful.

... Except I find it strange that she made you the leader. It... was kinda random. I'm suddenly the leader of the Liberation Forces... 0_o ... Uh... neat?

I admit to laughing at the recruitment of... the girl I forget the name of... Anyway the one that asked Flik to date her. XD

I think that might be my problem with the game. It's so ... SPEEDY. Recruitment is so fast, and thus, backstory isn't building up. Not even the not-so-plot related backstory. I'm thinking of Dogha and Nhazu, from ST @_@ And also of Tsaubern from ST... For charliedoggie, a more valid comparison I could think of are Norma and Ernst from SV.

That wouldn't be so bad, except even PLOT is so fast. I'm told to do something, I go run to do it.. and nothing extra happens. 0_o Like when I was told to get the Fire Spears. I ran up. I got the Fire Spears. I ran back down. Along the way I recruited about six people. Um. Where's my backstory? 0_o

Maybe that's why I can't be emotional about certain parts. Your rise to be the leader of the Liberation Forces is sudden. Gremio's death is sudden. Teo's death is sudden... ^^;; Ah well...

Things might change though. I'm currently at portions that seems to be working up backstory for Viktor. It looks a bit promising, but I'll try not to get my hopes up.

Admittedly though, seeing old faces pop up is just <3 ... Especially the ones from SIII. Apple in particular had me all XD And all the Silverbergs are making me wonder which one spawned Caesar, one of the characters on my SIII list XD XD XD

I AM STILL GIVING THE GAME THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT though. Because for all I know, the plot will pick up speed. Otherwise, I'm letting the entire game be backstory so that I can enjoy SII all the more :3 I'm PRETTY sure that I absolutely ADORED SII as I was playing it. I'm just hoping it's not because I was ten years younger back then... I really don't think so though...
