NCIS season 8
So, stuff is incrementally leaking out regarding the forthcoming season of NCIS and, while I've sort of paid attention to it, I was saddened to realize I honestly don't care much about this coming year of the show. Last season was so ... mediocre that it seems to have completely turned me off of the show on every front. Gibbs? Don't care about him since I lost every ounce of respect I may have had for his character in that "Mother's Day" episode. Tony? Don't get me started on him and how frankly retarded the writing has been for him for too long. If they significantly dial back the DiNozzo stupidity (something I frankly doubt based on the last two seasons where he's only competent when dramatically appropriate), he might be tolerable to watch. Ziva ... I dunno where to even begin with her since I've disliked what they've been doing to her since season 6 (I still haven't forgiven Shane Brennan for the abject stupidity of that Ari retcon that showed up at the end of season 7), and the fact that the whole Mossad storyline has been insulting at best is another thing that turned me off. McGee was better last season, but that's because they've actually let him evolve as a character while Tony (for example) is stuck in idle in terms of development. Abby ... well, I've never been a major fan of hers, but I really hope they let her evolve as well (but I doubt it, 'cause like Tony, the showrunners appear to be afraid to let her grow.) And frankly, the show needs more Ducky and more Palmer.
But please, for the love of God, improve the stupid crimes this year. Last season was horribly insulting in terms of the investigations they were handling (child geniuses? Really?) and when I see stuff like that remark about there being interns for ep, I have to sigh and shake my head. Don't get me started on the Tiva hand grenade comment - that ship is dead and I really wish the showrunners would stop beating that dead horse. Just let it go. Let it go and let the characters fricking evolve.
I complain out of love. I've been with NCIS since the JAG episodes, and this year ... this year I'm sincerely considering not even bothering tuning in because of how bad last season (the last two seasons, really) was. :-(
