Christine tapped her stylus against the table as she finished up the final chapter that would be covered on her upcoming exam. She wasn't too worried, even if it was her first exam as a Starfleet cadet. She had aced biology in high school, and everything they'd been learning so far was pretty much a review of the same. The only thing about which

Goddamm hormonal brat. It was like living with an over sexed teenager.
With a low grunt towards the librarian he apologized - but didn't say sorry, only an apology because he knew it was one simple slip and not like he was a loud pain in the ass reaping havoc. He managed to send her a Southern boy smile though for the sake of getting his own way, and managed to end up directed in the areas he needed to collect up the books for his studies that were listed as required reading.
The irritating thing was, he knew everything there was to know in those books, but if he didn't quote the right page with the right numbers in his work he'd be screwed. He found it all terribly laughable but not for the right reasons.
As he got to one of the last books on the list and added it to the pile growing under his arm, he heard a feminine voice - not one he knew awfully well - and cocked up an eyebrow. Still, he tucked the book under his arm and looked along the shelving for the next.
"Entirely possible. 'Specially now you called me a thief in such a public settin'."

"Like anyone's 'round to hear that I said that," she said with a huff. Pointing at his books, she continued, "Those are the additional readings for Olson's class. Some other people would like to read them before the test too, you know. You can't have 'em all at once."
Never mind that she had been about to take them all herself. It wasn't like she thought anyone else would actually go out of their way to read them.

"An' neither can you. Don't think I've not noticed you followin' after me after every book," he commented, a hint of amusement to his voice. Only a hint, of course.
"I won't be long with them. Won't be learnin' anythin' from them new. Jus' need the right page numbers and quotes to get by."

"Oh, don't even--" she began. It was completely true, but she wasn't going to let him know that. Luckily, she was a fast thinker. "I was going after each to flip through them and see which I wanted to read the most. Or at least, that was my plan. What'd you expect me to do when each place I went didn't have the book I wanted to look at? I hoped I could find at least one."
Shifting from one foot to the other, she tried to hide her worry. "Think we're gonna need to know specific page numbers?"

"It's th' type of system they used in medical school. Often they'll want to see how much you've paid attention to. They can discover a lot 'bout how you practice medicine from which opinions an' views you agree with. Whether yer more practical or emotional. One of these books, th' ethics in medicine is a popular one. They'll be askin' for quotes from that at th' very least."

She managed to pay attention to what he said, and cocked her head to the side. "You've been to medical school already?"

Letting out a breath he nodded, giving the book shelves another glance, then returning his look towards her. "I have. I've worked in my own practice, too."

"Huh. Well, wouldn't you think I'd need at least one of those books more'n you?" As an afterthought, she sidled up closer and tried to dial up the sweetness. "You wouldn't want people thinkin' you're greedy, would ya, sugah?" All that was missing was the eyelash batting, but dammit, she'd lower herself to it if he'd just hand over one book.

"Now if you ask me like a normal person, without th' whole butter wouldn't melt act then maybe I'd feel th' need to share."

Crossing her arms, she debated what she wanted to do. Asking politely just felt like she was letting him "win," so to speak, but the thought of bonus points on her exam made her let go of her pride.
"Fine. I'd like one of those books. Would you give it t'me, please?"
