- the average person farts between 7 and 14 times a day (depending on the statistic you want to believe), and produces about half a liter of fart gas per day.
- there are roughly 6.6 billion people on earth.
lets use 10 as the average number of farts per person. that means 66 billion farts happen, per day, on the planet earth.
there are 86,400 seconds in a day.
even assuming each fart is short (let's assume it lasts for half a second), we would only need 172,800 farts (assuming they were sequential) to make a continuous world fart. given that the farts will not be sequential, but rather stochastic in nature, we need some wiggle room to make a continuous fart. this is not a problem; there are roughly 381,944 times that many farts per day happening on the planet earth, which should be more than enough to cover any random chance that there might not be a fart happening at any given time.
now, imagine if you will, the continuous fart sound of all those people farting. perhaps it would sound like a digerido. it might sound like a prayer wheel. a loud, echoing, basso profundo prayer wheel of flatulence!
p.s. as i wrote this i farted 8 times. i guess i've got a head start on the day!
