Today started ot early, as I headed to REI to help get the pack dept ready for the anniversary sale. By 10 am we opened the doors, and people started flooding in. Immediately I started fitting packs, and talking with people about which selection they should take. There were a lot of people traveling abroad or going packing for the first time. In almost every case they took the suggestions I gave them. But in it all I also got a glimps of the trips they were taking, and sharing in part in there enthusiasim for adventure... It made me feel again, that I was in the right place. In the end, I put in a 8 hour shift with out a break or lunch.
I was sort of lost in what I was doing. So much so, that I noticed off the watch on a customers arm, that I was an hour late for my other job... Called them quickly, and then hopped on my bike and rode the three miles to Stoneway really fast. When I got to Pag's. Things were crazy. The printer was dead and we were getting slammed. Another person had called in sick, and they had given up that I was coming in. Busted down, and started to crank out the pizza. In about an 30 mins we were back on top. Although we had a large volume night. I ended up closing.
I got in a conversation with Scott on his recent ascent of Mailbox Peak. For him this solo, hike was pretty big, and it was good to see enthusiasism for the summer hiking season coming upon him. Small steps towards the backcountry as this 40 something began to explore the frontcountry... I talked to Arayn about her trips to Baker Hotsprings, and made plans to head out in the morning to Scenic HS....
I feel I know what I do best these days... get people into the woods and nature... I feel I am on the right path, but there is a lot more I want to do... Today was intense, yet full. Reminisant of those Camp days where I worked 18 hrs... But at the end of the day and the beginning of the next. I knew I was doing exactly what I was ment to do... Felt as though I am on that right path again... *:o)
