Wonderful Weekend

It's Monday and the clouds are rolling in and a breeze is blowing. What a refreshing day after the weekend and a perfect time to get the cleanup done. Though it is supposed to rain on and off all week, the weather is much needed as the plants are about dried up and the landscape is turning brown.

Friday, Jarett and I packed up our camping gear and the dog then headed out in the truck towards the East. The Coquitlam Crawlers planed a four-wheeling camping trip and we finally had the weekend to go, and we did. I was a bit unsure of how it would go; my first time camping and all then adding the dog into the mix, I wasn't sure what to expect. On the way there, about an hour out of our camp site, there was an accident on the road and it was closed. A motorcycle ran off the cliff so we had to backtrack and go around adding another 45min to an hour to our already long drive. Luckily we had the gas and the light to help us out, we made it to our destination just in time to setup camp and cook a little dinner.

The next day we had a visitor come to the neighboring tent. A bear grabbed onto a rubermade and attempted to steal it. He did get some toothpaste and hot dog buns, but nothing more. The little bugger scurried away a bit, sat down and returned several time until the guys ran him off, a good 30min of trying to get the idea into his head that he was unwanted... ballsy bear!

After that fun early morning, a little breakfast and off in the trucks to the trail. It started out relatively well but as we progressed the path got narrower and tight to Jarett's wider truck. There were some really hairy points that the truck made it through, but not without some carnage: a stick punctured the sidewall of one of it's tires, the paint on the hood and sides got a good scratching, and the driver's side door was pushed in breaking the locking mechanism inside. Some of the spots the jeeps were touching on both sides and roof, I was surprised Jarett got his big blue dodge though, but here we are. There was of course other problems we ran into: one couple had just gotten their vehicle back in working order and this trip probably took off most of the work done to it and also scared the life out from the wife of the driver. An experience to me, this off-road venture was awesome along with some scary points- being off-camber is freaking nuts!

A beautiful lakeside view, different landscapes all over, dense trees, great company, and a sense of being just brought the whole experience in. I loved my first camping adventure and enjoyed the company of the other people. The quiet atmosphere and wildlife are just what the doctor ordered; Jarett and I had the best weekend in some time and we even got to share it all with Zion.

On our last day, we packed up and cleaned up our campsite. The drive home was a bit breaking, it was so nice being away from population and cars, and we got stuck behind another accident about an hour from home... figures! Ah well, nothing can take this weekend from me. In a few minutes I'll be preparing for work, two weeks of straight work and another camping trip are on the calender. Washing up the dog and laundry, today is a little more lax but just fine to me.
