Alice!

Last night i went to see Alice Cooper. I must stress that if you haven't seen Alice live, you simply must. It was by far the coolest show I've ever been to. Seriously, there was a guillotine man, you can't beat that!

The opening band was , Helix. If you've never seen Helix I'd advise you not to. They sucked bad. As Bubbles said, "Give me an "R", fuck I'll give you a fuckin R" they are a washed up has been band but I must admit that there one guitarist was very good. Some older dude with a penchant for Marshalls and flying V's so I HAVE to give him respect. If you got the balls to go onstage with a V you have to "bring it".

So the stadium was filled with alot of oldies and baldies but I was happy to see alot of younger kids there sporting their Alice make-up. I always enjoy when I go to see one of my fave acts from when I was younger and see kids there. It give me hope for the music scene. Not all kids listen to shite mall-core that name there bands with an article, an adverb and a verb. Band names shouldn't be sentence fragments , fer fuck sakes that makes me mad!

Anyways, Alice's band was 3 younger dudes about my age and Eric Singer on drums, previously from Kiss and Black Sabbath. very cool. And they absolutely rawked!
Kinda a throwback to the big shows of the 70' with dueling guitar solo's and extended drum solo.

Now i was very happy to hear Billion Dollar Babies as the third song cuz I love that tune alot and even the new songs he played were quite good, along the same vein as the early 70 garage rock that made Alice famous. He played all the hits from the 70's aswell so there was lots of audience participation. Surprisingly the people in my section, all older than me by at least 20 years, didn't know the tunes. so ghey!

Alice's stage show is legendary. It included a bull whip fight with his daughter which led to him vanishing on stage and alot of sword fighting and cane twirling.
There was also a little section where Alice's daughter dressd as PAris Hilton got all messed up by papparazzi and was hilarious.

The best part of the whole night was when they did a kinda medley, kinda in the way that the 4 songs involved were pieced together and lengthened rather than shortened.
He started with Welcome to my Nightmare and did this big story on how he goes insane, beats his wife(again played by his little girl) and gets taken away by the mental health people. THEN THE STRAIGHT JACKET COMES OUT ! He sings abit then escapes from the straight jacket, slits his wife's throat and the baddies come and put him in the guillotine. This is where his wife cuts his head off. the head is put on a Frankenstein bodie in a coffin and when he comes back to life!!! he slices her up and sings "feed my Frankenstein"!

So in closing ALice Cooper is the MAN! Its was cool to see one of my childhood hero's and not be dissapointed in a performance of a legend past his prime!
