unclutch night of work

Sep 17, 2005 01:00

Man tonight was fuckin brutaaaaaaaal at work tonight. We were incredibly short of workers..... like 8 or 9 people.... and to make matters worse we had a fucking lobster bake. So like 3/4 of the fucking residents came to the Windsor Dining Room. Now under normal circumstances we could handle that. But because we were short so many people... we all ended up being inundated with tables. On a normal night we get 3 or 4 tables. Tonight..... i had 9. And to make matters worse.... Paul, our manager, had us doing little side jobs as well.... So I decided that when i got a chance I would wash trays. Thats a thankless job i'll tell ya. I would clean a few trays or whatever and then go check on my table(s) which is priority #1... then if everything was all set with the table, i'd go back and clean more trays. But every time I'd go back into the kitchen to clean more trays I'd hear "Chris we need more trays cleaned." I felt like saying "Go do it yourself if you need one so fuckin bad." It was just brutal. Then in the middle of the peak hour (6:00) we had a resident fall down. That was the first time I've experienced that. But i remembered from my training that we're supposed to try to make them stay on the ground. I mean.... if they know for sure they can get up we don't like hold them down... but me and this girl Torrey went over to her while someone called security (security doubles as an EMT in case u were wondering why we would call security lol.) Well this lady didn't cooperate AT ALL. Torrey kept asking her "Where does it hurt" and she was like "Everywhere." I think she was more embarassed than anything tho. She didn't seem to be in a whole lot of pain... but security came in and got her in a wheelchair and wheeled her off. I was hoping she would wave to the crowd to tell them she was ok lol. That would have been funny. And another thing.... I've never seen so much stuff get broken in one night too. It was sooooo rediculous lol. One of the utility workers that takes the dirty trays and puts the shit in the dishwasher dropped a WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLE fucking tray lol. Everything smashed. I mean..... I find it hard to believe how he could have POSSIBLY dropped the tray. It was literally a matter of picking the tray up with 2 hands, turning around, and putting the tray down. And he somehow dropped it lol. I mean... to put it in perspective... Us waiters load the whole fucking tray up with as much shit as possible (plates, drinking glasses, coffee cups, custard cups, silverware, etc.) and carry the tray with 1 HAND manuevering through tables, chairs, and doors.... yet I've never seen a waiter drop a tray. I'm not alone in the breaking things clique however.... I was carrying a tray full of lobsters and steamers.... and my table was in the private dining room. So in order to get into the private dining room you have to go through a narrow doorway. Well one of the cups that held the steamers was kind of hanging off the edge of my tray.... And i knew it but didn't think it was a problem.... But what happened was that the cup got rejected by the doorway and shattered lol. It turned out OK tho because the person didn't want steamers anyway. That brings me to my next point..... The residents are so damn picky. They would order the lobster.... and the steamers came with the lobster.... but it wasn't clearly written that way on the menu's. So the person would order lobster... and I'd tell them "it comes with the steamers" and they would say that was fine. So i'd bring out the lobsters along with the steamers and the person would say "Oh i don't want STEAMERS!!!" and i wanted to be like "YOU SAID U WANTED THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I mean... if the person had just plain said that they didn't want the steamers, I could of told the chef that.... which in turn would of cleared up a HELL of a lot of room on my tray. This happened like 13 times. And last but not least.... we didn't get to eat dinner :< All in all it was a brutal night and I'm glad the weekend's herrre.
