She watched Dr Who out of one eye, and is now cuddling the cat and looking sad.

This might be ungrateful of me, but why does everyone organize social events before Christmas? I'm sure that, in my youth, we did social things between Christmas and New Year, rather than in the week before Christmas.
For one thing, it used up the leftovers and the edible presents.

There will be a harp - and carols!

I have cleaned - everywhere! So now I have a new house for Christmas
