I'm so happy that I'm not an Anglican.
I think that the silliest thing that anyone has said - it was while I was listening in a rather desultory manner to Radio 4 so I missed the name - was that the Archbishop should go back to his professorial Chair .
Hasn't the speaker noticed that this is his third bishopric (second Archbishopric) and that it's 20 years since he held a Chair.? If he's really such a failure as a bishop, shouldn't someone have noticed that during the first or second stint?
What really annoyed me was Carey joining the lynch mob. If I were an Anglican, and had to choose between a goldfish and an ex-Professor, I'd take the ex-Professor, thank you.
The Dean of Bangor had the right idea when he refused to have Lord George Carey in his cathedral in 2006 - the snag was that he went to Llandudno instead, but luckily we could go to the fireworks and pretend that he wasn't there.
