Same old story...

The Brit Award nominations this year are an absolute farce. The acts who I thought deserved recognition (such as Delays and R.E.M.) are absent from the lists and acts that haven't been around for long enough seem to get instant recognition. Yet again, certain decisions seem to be ill conceived. If Kasabian are worthy of their "Best British Group" ( Read more... )

Wow, that's an utterly bizarre category:

BRITs25 : THE BEST SONG AWARD

Joy Division - 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'
Kate Bush - 'Wuthering Heights'
Queen - 'We Are The Champions'
Robbie Williams - 'Angels'
Will Young - 'Leave Right Now'

I can't really see acts in the list getting instant recognition, apart from perhaps Keane or Kasabian. Bands like Franz Ferdinand and Snow Patrol have been slogging it out for years (under their various guises) and it's nice to see them finally get recognition.

It's better than previous years; apart from the odd one or two, I can see why the nominations are there based on commercial sales or critical acclaim. The only category that raised my eyebrows a bit was the best single one, which has some songs I'd never heard of in.

Mind you, Absolution, Speakerboxx/Love Below and Final Straw (all out halfway through 2003) shouldn't be there.

I still don't understand how Kazabian, a band that haven't been going for long at all, aren't nominated for "Best Breakthrough" but they are nominated for "Best Band". Franz Ferdinand and Keane are nominated in both categories. :S

Something tells me that Sir Bob Geldof is only getting the "Outstanding Achievement" because of the whole Band Aid thing coming to light again. I don't think he'd have got it if nothing had been released. *sigh*
