So "Band Aid 20" has officially been launched and for want of a better word, it's shite. No, it really is awful. If anybody wants to listen to "Feed The World" this year, I'm urging them to hunt out the original that is bound to be on a Christmas compilation CD hidden away in their houses somewhere and make a personal donation to the cause if they want to give something.
What really gets my goat on this though isn't the fact that it has been re-released but the ignorance of some of the stars that are taking part. The likes of Jamelia and Joss Stone didn't know who Bob Geldof was and didn't know what "Feed The World" was about and so had to be told by their parents, which surely begs two questions:
1. They're in the music business so to not know who Bob Geldof and Midge Ure are is just plain ignorant!
2. They may not remember the original "Live Aid" concert but "Feed The World" gets played every Christmas time. You can't escape it. Have they not once thought, "Hmm, Feed The World at Christmas Time? What's that all about then?" before now?! Gees...
And as for Dizzee Rascal, his rapping on the new version is so awful he should be shot! In fact, his new single, which covers "Happy Talk" by Captain Sensible, is so out of tune and so awful, I can't for the life of me figure out how it got to number 14 in the charts. It was obviously bought by morons. The same morons who'll buy "Band Aid 20" probably.
Do everyone a favour. Play the far superior original version and send Sir Bob a cheque for £3.99. Heck, why not make it a fiver?! You'd still be giving more than those ignorant celebrities who took part in the rehashed version.
