For those of you who lived in the 1980s, you should not only be able to tell me whose tag line that was, but how to finish it.
I’ll give you a hint: like this post it’s about cars!
Back in the day there were dozens of toy companies waging any number of hefty battles: Kenner vs. Mattel, Tonka vs. Tyco, and Ideal vs. Hasbro. But perhaps there was no fiercer battle than Matchbox vs Hot Wheels, and boy was it heated! I liked both. Probably because at that age I didn’t really know the difference between the two. So I had both. And while I had a version of Matchbox City (

I played with mine so much and for so many years that the stickers wore off. And what hadn’t worn off due to use, I scraped off so as to put my own signs and directions on (which wasn’t anything to write home about let me tell you...) Needless to say it’s so cool to see one of these toys in like-new condition. It sure brings back the memories! And I’m glad to know who actually made it...
And speaking about cars, does anyone remember STOMPERS?
Stompers were first created in 1980 by Schaper Toys. These toys were battery-powered vehicles that ran on a single AA battery and featured four-wheel drive. They were driven by a single motor that turned both axles. Although I would never be hugely into STOMPERS, I did have this set... The TOUGH TRACK "Devil Mountain" and it was pretty cool!
Cool, yes, but not the most quiet. The battery driven cars weren't the quietest things ever... and rolling over nothing but plastic didn't help either. Still, you combine this with the Matchbox Cars and Hot Wheels Service Center and I had one hell of a Car City!
And just to let you off the hook... the tagline is from Pontiac. :D
