I've just received an email from
sapfir_imla on behalf of a colleague of hers. Can anyone help? I suspect I have a few people more knowledgeable about Latin than me on my friends list...
Does anyone have a good grasp of 17th century Latin usage? I’ve been struggling with this slightly cryptic phrase from William Dugdale’s visitation to Durham (1666) in which he refers to the location of various heraldic devices in Sockburn Hall. I have the gist of it, but as ever the devil is in the detail, particularly towards the end of the sentence. Would anyone care to have a stab?
