I was only just saying on
purple_pen's LiveJournal this morning how reliable our Flymo was, and how we'd had it for around 10 years without the slightest fault.
Then tonight, I was happily mowing the back lawn in the pleasant evening sunshine when it stuttered and a little smoke came out as I approached the halfway point. I let it cool a bit, took off the grass collecting box (so it had less weight to lift), and managed to do about two thirds of the remaining half of the lawn - and then it stuttered again, and a lot of smoke came out. So I turned it off and unplugged it. The smoke got thicker, so I turned the hosepipe on it, and hacked the top open to get more water onto the motor.
It's now very dead, and I'm going to have to buy a new mower. Which is annoying as if we move house (potentially that could happen in the next six months), we'll probably need a bigger (sit on maybe) mower because we're looking for half an acre of grass.
So
purple_pen, I think you've cursed my mower :(
