A Story and A Rant

There is something about the sound of a cigarette sizzling in puddle that hits me hard. Its strange, most of the sounds and smells that really do it for you are things from you childhood or an important time in your life. Yet this sound is something new to me and it drives me wild. When I was a child there was only one person who ever smoked around me and she never put her cigarette out in a liquid of any kind. I do have one memory of cigarettes that was always interesting even to this day. The way that the smoke billows out of the end of a cigarette sends me to a different place. As a child I always imagined that there were phantoms escaping from this small stick and flying around the car or up into the sky to rest in peace. Now as I'm older the image helps me escape for a moment and keep my thoughts together, it is true bliss.

Yet today I stumbled upon a anti smoking group on a popular social networking site. This group was based out of a local college and I couldn't believe how fake everyone was. It was full of nineteen to twenty year olds sitting on their high horse and talking about how awful it was when a smoker sits next to them on a bench or is walking in front of them. Now I have smoked for some time now and hang around my fair share of smokers and when asked to put out a cigarette my colleagues and I always do. This is not a matter of smokers v. non-smokers its a matter of douche bag v. cunt. Its about people who are so much better than the rest of the world that smokers should know when they are bothering them and smokers who are so caught up in being bad ass they aren't paying attention to where they blow their smoke. Still the kicker to this group was that a majority of these goddamn people had pictures of themselves drinking at keggers and nothing light normal college drinking. College drinking involves knowing your limit yet having no regard for it. Its drinking so that there is a chance you get laid latter on in the night and glorifying the act of throwing up. If you want to get rid of smokers you can in no way ever be a drinker. My second hand smoke might kill you thirty years down the road when you have been given a chance to live life and there are so many factors that go into cancer you can't blame just one thing. Yet how maybe mornings have you woken up and flipped on fox fear channel and heard of some poor 16 year old that was hit by a drunk driver. How many times have you heard of some drunk college kid showing off how his car handles and ends up killing people he loved in the car with him when he lost control. Of course he lives from the crash and has to spend the rest of his life with that gripping guilt. My vice is healthier to the people around me than yours so please just shut up, Thank You.
