"Pets".
I miss having animals around. I'm in a pretty good situation to care for an animal right now, time wise, but there's that whole, err, minor issue of me having no money to pay for vet bills, should they be necessary. So, for the time being, I'm having to think up things to fill that void. One of these things is a sourdough starter. I called her Sally. After 3 days of living in the cupboard and being "fed" daily, she will then only need to be fed weekly, and will move to the fridge where she will live out the rest of her days. In return, she will let me use half of her to make delicious bread.
Garrett also came up with the idea of making window boxes using some of the old wood from the house. I love this idea! I'm heading off to scavenge some, then he's going to show me how to make wooden boxes. I might also head to the library to try and learn a bit more about gardening. It's not the animal company that I want, but they'll do for the time being!
