I don't need to know what you do for a living, but I prefer to know what you suffer and ache for and if you dare to accomplish the dreams that you long to complete. It doesn't interest me to know how old you are, but rather if you are willing to risk looking like a fool for your dreams, for love, and for the adventure of life. I don't care what planets surround your moon, and want to know if you have come to terms with the sorrow within you; if you have been exposed to life's betrayals or have shriveled and closed yourself to get further away from pain.
I need to know if you can handle the pain, mine or your own, if you can move it or hide it, fade it or fix it.
I want to know if you can be with joy. Can you allow ecstasy fill the tips of your fingers and toes? Could you stop cautioning yourself from being careful, from being realistic, to remember the limitations of being human?
You tell me a story, but it does not interest me if it is true. I only want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself. Can you see beauty like I can, even when its not pretty, everyday? You can source your own life from its presense. Can you live with failure, yours or mine, and still continue your enthusiasm even when you know you're at the end?
It doesn't matter at all to me where you live or how much money you have. I just want to know that you can get up after a night of grief and despair, weary and bruised, and do what needs to be done. I have no interest as to who you know or how you came to be here but I need to know that you will stand with me in the fire and burn with me. I don't care about what or where or who you studied. I'd rather know what sustains you from inside when everything else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone. If you can be with yourself. If you truly enjoy the company you keep in the empty moments.
