Yo, Mayfield.

[Lancer's tone was as light and casual as always, and he sounded as if he was in a pretty decent mood. Which contrasted particularly sharply with what he was about to say.]Did you guys know I had a brother? He fought against the country I decided to protect, so I killed him. And y'know...when you're a knight, you have to stick to ( Read more... )

[Dryly, humorously, compelled-by-the-town-ly, the #1 person Lancer doesn't want to hear from speaks.]

I suppose it would be safe to assume Rin and myself were at odds at some point in your Grail war then, Lancer? If pressed I suppose I can guess why: a secondary or backup grail, yes? Furthermore I feel as though I should commend you -- even for a heroic spirit, surviving a strike from the Gae Bolg is an impressive feat.

[There's a pause, and the man on the other end frowns.]

...It appears verbal diarrhea is becoming a very common malady, does it not? How intriguing.

Oh, if it isn't my stupid as hell former Master. You're asking the wrong guy about the Grail, I don't know or care about it one way or another.

And hey, it's my goddamned lance, so it'd be pretty pathetic if I died right away from getting hit with it. ...You know, kind of like you did. Should've seen the look on your face, it was pretty hilarious.

[Beat.]

...Oh hey, I actually meant to say all of that. What do you know.

I was merely inquiring as to the events of your war, Lancer. To be frank, the idea of parallel worlds is an intriguing one.

Well, I am merely a mortal, after all. Or would you rather see the demonic lance lauded as a weapon that assures a kill disgraced?

[You know. Like when it failed against Saber. And Archer. Were there others? I can't remember it just fails so much! That is what the tone of voice implies. Maybe.]

My surprise would be palpable if it existed. As it stands however, my surprise is deader than my self in your war, and your self in my own series of events.

It's hilarious how you seem to think provoking someone waiting for an excuse to kill you is a good idea.

It is a method of gauging character. No more, and no less. Though I am fast coming to the conclusion that Cú Chulainn is Cú Chulainn, no matter what events occurred within a different grail war.

Look at that, I actually agree with you on something. I think I just felt hell freeze over.

I wouldn't be half as awesome as I am if I was any different. I'd probably be pretty boring otherwise.

[Yeah, that's totally a fact in his mind.]

In fairness, the deepest layer of hell is in fact frozen over, should you listen to certain dogmas.

Regardless. Judging from the... variation I've seen, I am inclined to agree. I'm unsure what exactly to call the other, but it certainly seems less effective.

[Heroic Spirits > Personae I GUESS.]

...you're kidding, you saw that moron in the cape too?

[ffffuuuuu--]

Typical, I bet half the people from Fuyuki saw that stupid thing. At least I haven't heard Archer laughing about it yet. I might have to punch him.

While I can't speak for the rest of the people from our original locale, I myself found it difficult to ignore the spectacle.

I almost hesitate to add, if it was Archer, it would be strange for him to miss such a thing unless his attention was diverted elsewhere.

[The keyword there is clearly "almost" right?]

Great. Maybe I'll get lucky for a change and nobody else saw it.

If I may be blunt, luck is not a trait I've seen you exhibit vast amounts of. Although in retrospect, that seems to be a commonality between heroic spirits to a certain extent.

If someone told me when I was seven that being a hero was going to suck, I wonder if I'd have still done things the same way. ...Hell, I probably would have. I'm pretty clueless like that. Scathach used to say my head was thicker than the walls of her damn castle.

...Not saying she was wrong, either.

Is that not the mark of a hero? To take in good and bad in equal measure, to be reviled and praised, and to live a life with no regrets.

Though, I suppose the grail would be less alluring if that was the case universally.

Who the hell cares? I died with no regrets, no matter how much my life might've sucked. And I really don't give a damn about the Holy Grail.

A fact I am well aware of. I recall orders to refrain from open combat being one of many points of contention between the two of us. I assume such is universal among grail wars.
