[Yeah, even if they weren't free, Adachi would've drug his sorry ass to the Tavern after all that bullshit. Sure, the kids eventually came back to life. But still, that shit was just... something he didn't expect. His first real taste of this miserable hell. He'll just drink that horrible feeling in his gut away and everything will be a-okay, right?]

Hit me with the strongest stuff you've got, sir.

Name's Lancer, kid.

[And Adachi would get exactly what he asked for because Lancer is the best awful bartender ever.]

Didn't know guys in their thirties qualified as kids, but I'll take it as a compliment. But thanks. I'm Adachi. [There's a playful smile, knowing Lancer didn't really mean anything by it. And he'll just be slowly sipping on that drink. He's going to savor it as long as possible. Won't take him too long to loosen up though.]

[Congratulations, Adachi, you're technically older than Lancer. Technically.]

[Not that he cares, he'll call you whatever he wants to.]

Nice to meet you. I take it you're another one that didn't get off all that light?

[Well...]

I somehow managed to survive the shitstorm, but I had my share of mental stress. [And another sip or two.]

Those kids didn't deserve that shit. I swear, if I ever find out who killed them off... I'm putting them on my shit list. Especially whoever went through the effort to cut cute little Minako up. That's just... some fucked up shit right there. Takes a sick bastard to do that.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were a whole legion of sick bastards around here.

Heh. I'm technically one of those sick bastards. Sure, that was five, six years ago but... You can never erase the blood stains from your hands. Not completely.

[If the idea bothered him, Lancer didn't show it--he just shrugged dismissively.]

Never does go away, really. No matter what reason you kill someone over, it's going to hang around you for a hell of a long time. Ends up getting to the point where either you focus on it and drive yourself crazy or brush it aside and get on with your life.

I've had my share of crazy, believe me. And it would be easy enough just to brush it off, but... when people constantly remind you of it... Doesn't really help matters.

[Another shrug. If Lancer had much else of substance to say on the subject, he didn't really show it.]

Can't imagine it would.

[Nothing every bothers Lancer because he is a total bro.

Okay, maybe this was loosening him up a little too much. inb4 information overflow.]

So, how 'bout you? Did this stupid ass town have you slaughtered like those poor kids?

Wouldn't call it 'slaughtered'. I lost a fight.

Even so, I can't imagine death being any fun. Even temporarily.

I've done it before. Couple times, actually--it's really not that big a deal.

...A couple of times?

[Yeah, he'll be finishing off the rest of his drink now.]

You must be one of those reckless warrior types. Can't think of anyone else that wouldn't think dying so many times was such a big deal.

Me, reckless? Nah.

[Oh yes.]

Death just isn't something to fear.
