I Should Reveiw Movies For A Living

Dec 18, 2005 01:02

Before we delve into the tofu of this entry I just have to say: 495 is cursed. Only for me. And only when I'm trying to get back home after a long day. I have driven upon said road several times without mishap, usually when there is some sane navigator with me (no, Jenna, this does not pertain to you). When I'm tired, cranky, frustrated, and really really looking forward to bed (more on bed later) 495 becomes a complicated tangle of signs with odd place names and never the direction you need. Oh, and the radio stops playing good songs.

Nuff said.

I was on 495 because I had just spent 3 pretty awesome hours watching a great movie. I loved this movie as a kid (we all know I was one strange little bugger) and was very excited to hear that a GOOD director was redoing it. I'm sure you've all figured out what I'm talking about:
Beautiful. Brilliant. Boggle-minding (keep up the alliteration!). I did have problems with a few weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee bits: character development (there's all this build up of backstory for Ann, then nada); it was a tad too melodramatic for my taste (but then my taste isn't everybody's, and ya'll lesser beings can go screw). I could also write a Feminist Manifesto centered around the theory that King Kong is about female repression and male domination: women are only necessary if they can be sacrificed to the male ego; as a literal sacrifice, i.e. the "virgin" offering to the gorilla, or a figurative emotional sacrifice wherein she only serves to be rescued and has no value above a blonde consumer of air. Or something to that extent.
Other things that bothered me: TOO MANY BUGS!!!! I hate bugs. And there were a lot in this movie. Bugs. Eugch;foina!
And the editing. Dude's trying to make up for criticisms of LotR if you ask me. And the subplot, reminded me a bit too much of Troy McClure and Little Jimmy. Not so sure about the simmering homoeroticism. Other things: What captain shouts STOP instead of REVERSE??? Yes, it's a bitch on the engine, but so's getting RAMMED INTO A ROCK.
There were several things that made me happy. They kept parts from the original lizard/ Kong fight (esp. the part that I loved the MOSTEST!!). The cinimetography, DUH. The obvious background done on the natives that was evident simply from the way they built the gate and the surrounding sets. Jack Black was effin brilliant. He had that edge, that will-he-won't-he-snap-right-NOW edge. And of course, my number one reason for loving this movie: Adrian Brody. Adrian Brody. Adrian Brody.
I want him. Hot and naked in my bed. Right now.

I need to see Summer Of Sam and The Pianist. READYGO!

End communication.
