and the sun comes out..

So I've been listening to Shakira's new album Sale El Sol for a week now and am ready to give my thoughts on it. Firstly, the album cover..

I must say this sun-kissed look doesn't really appeal to me. Where has that edgy rocker "Ojos Asi" Shakira gone? Nevetheless, the first track which bears the same name as the album is a nice opening to the album, and kind of goes with the sun-kissed feel the album cover gives. The second track is the first single "Loca". I have to admit that I actually like listening to the song although I hate the music video. "Antes De Las Seis" is the third track, which brings me back to the Fijacion Oral 1 days - beautiful! I really love this song! It really reminds me of the old Spanish-singing Shakira.

"Gordita" is very La Tortura-ish, which is totally great for me. The heavy beats and melody give it a very mysterious feel. "Addicted to You" is a dancey track, which I'm not sure what to make of. It has a very 70's or 80's feel that's very Miami Sound Machine, if you ask me. Just average, in my opinion.

"Lo Que Mas" is another song on this album which reminds me of the old Spanish-singing Shakira. I love love love it! If you liked "Tu", "Antologia" and "Moscas en la Casa" from her old Spanish albums, you will love this one too. This song is perfect.

"Mariposas" has a catchy chorus, but other than that, it's quite an average medium-tempo song. It's the next song "Rabiosa" which caught my attention immediately. Pitbull is featured here, which makes the song ultra sexy. I love the cumbia flavour and everytime I hear the song I feel like going to a Latin club to dance.

"Devocion" is one of those tracks which I usually skip when listening to the CD, just cos I don't really get it. It seems like her attempt to be "rocker" again but it doesn't really impress me. "Islands" and "Tu Boca" are also tracks which I skip cos I don't get. She included the K-Mix of Waka Waka into this album, but I still prefer the original World Cup version.

Generally, the album has some REALLY good songs, but also some really bad ones. So what happens is that I can't get enough of certain songs, but I really hate listening to some other songs. Shakira fans should get this album for those good songs, but non-fans should skip this.
