Last weekend I went with my niece Susan to visit her friend Joanne's son Jack who grew up with her children. He is on a nuclear sub and he operates it. He's a bright guy. He also has a sports car he is making even faster. He's a super-tech and mechanical, a lot like my brother Todd. His wife Alexi is a good match for him. She's going to college and while he was gone out to sea, she saved the extra money and he bought the car.
Of course Susan and I had to make some stops. We stopped at a junky looking second hand/antique place. It was fabulous and just went on and on. If anyone every needs a lion or a carved rose throne or life sized jungle animals or church pews, this is the place to go. We put it on our Garmin for future reference. I was tempted to put money down on the lion throne chair (for obvious Leo reasons), but resisted.
Farther on the way home, I called to talk to my mother. Since my brother Ted's phone was "out of range", I figured they might be at my mother's house. I called there and she answered. She and Tess were picking up stuff to take back up to Martha's Vineyard and they are also selling my mother's house.
Tess got on the phone and wanted to know if I still wanted my mother's baby grand piano. It's not in the greatest shape, but I plan to go get it. I'll put a mattress in the bottom of whatever truck I use so the jarring won't be too bad on it.
Of course nothing was mentioned about what is happening to the money that the house is going to be sold for. What concerns me is that my mother has no short term memory. Do they just hand her something and say "sign here"? Has someone obtained legal control over her finances? Has someone gone to court or are my siblings just doing what they think is right without going through proper channels because our mom is not competent to handle her own affairs. I am going to ask these quesions, but I'd like to get the piano in hand before I alienate anyone. I seem to have a talent for that.
My Census is coming to a slamming halt. It got done faster than they thought. They hired good people but didn't realize how good. We got 2 months work done in one month.
I plan to go get the piano Father's Day weekend when Susan will be down in NYC. I will continue out to mom's without her and pick up the piano and whatever else is set aside for me.
There will be noone from this branch of the Box family left in Seaford. I have plans to get so know Boxes in Bellmore, LI, where my grandmother lived.
After Father's Day in NYC I am coming back to Beaver Dams, resting for a day or two and then heading for the west. I may be stopping in Albuquerque and Phoenix, but I make no promises since I change my plans constantly, especially when it comes to the extreme heat of the southwest.
In WA I plan to empty my store rooms and get rid of a bunch of stuff, probably selling stuff including my piano since I'm getting another one. I also plan to get my dental work done and my bone spur fixed on my right heel. It's broken off and doesn't give me much trouble, but it could.
Of course, I will have a lot of time to see my children and grandchildren. It will be hard to leave them again for NY, but I will be as bi-coastal as possible. I will be staying with Beverly probably through September, or when it becomes obvious that the passes and northern route will be snowy. I also want to revisit Westport, Ruby Beach and Mt. Rainier with my adventure buddy, grandson Ivan. He's my Dash Incredible. The guy is so fast it's hard for him to brake. I haven't seen running speed in the family like his since I was young. He has taken up the guitar. I'd like to record he and his mom playing and singing on a CD.
Right now I am also doing dishes, laundry and making doctor and dentist appointments in Tacoma.
Can't wait to see Beverly's house. I will do her yardwork while I'm there and maybe plant some stuff that's hearty.
