Movie mayhem...

OMG! So I can see why my sis says our mall has gone ghetto. So I'm standing in line to get tickets for The Brave One, which is a damn good dissection of a woman who is consumed by revenge, when all hell brakes loose.

I'm second in line, minding my own business when I hear raised voices next to the box office. Like everyone else, I want to see what the commotion is all about. I glance over and about 10 feet away I see one guy in the movie theater lobby wearing a red hat. He's hollering at some other mallrat by the theater/mall doors. They trade some pretty nasty words the usual, "Grow up you punk!" returned the by the "Suck my dick, you little mofo," and on and on they went.

While they were sniping at each other and arranging throwdown dates--right after the movie the guy in the red cap was gonna go see--I watched everyone around me slowly begin edging away from the soon-to-be smack down. The box office attendant closest to the two gangster wannabes vanish, along with his line of people. The guy in front of me simultaneously moved around the box office and asked for movie tickets as he kept his wife behind him and his eyes on the two kids. His box office attendant was stuttering apologies nervously and muttering that he wasn't about to step into the middle of that fight. However,  he was sorry for the inconvenience. Yeah...okay that was really not helpful 0_o;

That was right about the time that the mallrat began doing this funny little twirl thing while the guy in the red cap told him to grow the fuck up and get a job or a life, whichever. The kid kept flipping his shirt up a bit, just high enough to run his fingers over the waistband of his jeans, like he was looking for something. Which had me looking to see if he was packing something that was gonna have me diving for the floor, but he wasn't carrying.  That's when the mallrat and his boys take off for the mall and the guy in the red cap crossed the lobby floor and began hollering at the top of his lungs calling the mallrat a little mother fucker and some such. Suddenly, some dude comes barrelling right past me and smacks into the guy with the red cap. A rather unsuccessful attempt at tackling, but it seemed to signal to the mall rats that the fight had begun and they rushed back into the movie theater and started beatin' on Red Cap dude and his one guy friend.

It must have been a 60 second fight. Seemed longer, but it wasn't. It was really short. Everyone sort of ended up in the arcade area. Security had been called by then and they had joined the fray. I saw one of my old security buds take down one guy and tell another to back down or off. I had no idea he could be so loud, or sound like he was totally gonna beat their asses. A movie patron in the arcade section grabbed hold of red cap's friend and tried to grab a hold of the guy who was beatin' on him. The other little gangster mallrats scurried off in different directions. The only ones left behind were Red Cap, his pal, and the security detail that had broken up the fight.  That's when the guy with the red cap says, "That little punk stabbed me!" He's nursing his stuck arm, and mall security tries to keep him there while they call for the cops and an ambulance. Everything seemed to disintigrate after that and strangely, flow back to normal. It's like poeple suddenly remebered that tey weren't there to watch the fight. They were there for a movie.

I couldn't help but stand there and wonder why theater management hadn't tossed both those idiots out before it escaleted into what it did. Why did security take so long to get there? Why did we all only just stand by and  watch? It was all very strange and surreal to see it unfold like that. Now that it's over, I can't help but think that I am in some bad need of self-defense classes or something.
