Son of a slime-bellied sapsucker.
I did something STUPID today. I accidentallykindaonpurpose deleted all of my browser bookmarks. Something like twelve YEARS of accumulated bookmarks. And not "deleted into the recycle bin" - no, no, I'm too smart for that. "Deleted" as in "irretrievably over-wrote" the file. And, of course, it overwrote the password and cookie file as well, so now I have to remember all of my various logons and passwords. I have a backup from the laptop, but the laptop has a very stream-lined version of the bookmarks.
Gah. The modern wonder of making big mistakes quickly and efficiently.
Yes, yes, back up your files, yada yada. When I first started off as an engineer, all our work was done in CADD systems, and I worked for a man who liked to reinforce the concept of "frequent saves" by walking by your desk and, every now and then, unplugging your computer, so you lost whatever you'd done since your last save. I hated him AND his methods. I still remember the sound of the huge hard drives, out of power and spooling down, taking all of your data with it...
Time to drink (and, ooo, look at the clock, it's even an appropriate hour....).
