I have to go into the scary part of Yonkers again for "job placement services" according to the letter I got yesterday from NY Unemployment. When I was there the first time about three weeks after I got laid off, I was in and out in 10 minutes. A kid who looked like he had just graduated high school got to "counsel" me on my job search. *rolling eyes*
This time I get to listen to some other lecture. I'm not dismissing it outright, but these services are more suited to people who are unskilled and uneducated.
I have to bring my list of jobs I've applied for to show that I've been searching for something instead of, y'know, hanging out all day. The list isn't that long. I try to apply to jobs I know I won't hate (which is short). Then again, I run into job descriptions like this:
Editor
Location: New York, NY
Job Type: full
JobID: 38828
Brief Job Description:
Major Media Network seeks a lead blogger with a wide range of interests, a strong writing voice and an appreciation for the mind and desires of a forward-thinking dude.
I'm sure you saw what was wrong with that, right? A forward-thinking dude? Really?
That's another reason why this job search is so effing depressing.
unemployed gah!,
