So, Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni brokered a deal with Universal/NBC to stay on Law & Order: There Are No Scripts That Make Sense Anymore for another two years.

I officially gave up with SVU after that stupid-ass "Stabler gets shot and then the squad saves a monkey in a basketball" episode last year. Good LORD, what are they smoking to write ( Read more... )

Holy mother of Bob. Even if they're not in the episode? That's... ::boggles::

I seem to recall hearing something similar during the last few years of Friends and I was more horrified then because the cast members were already disappearing to make millions on crappy films.

Yep, that's how the contracts are drawn up, which is probably why Richard Belzer has spent so long on there in the background not doing anything, because he gets paid regardless.

I watch. Get upset at stupid eps. but I confess that I still watch. And record each eps on DVR. More often then not, I erase it the next day.

But the unique thing about a contract is that they get paid even if they're not in an episode.

Um...what? I disagree with this. :(

Also,

They should be using that money for frickin' writers.

A hearty amen to that. I stopped watching the show about three years ago because the scripts and the story lines were atrocious.
