After an interesting, entertaining, and sweltering week in Buffalo with my grandparents, I'm finally back in Aber. I should really devote a whole post to the Buffalo trip, but not tonight. My grandpa's sheer humor and bastardliness never ceases to amaze me. He's very picky about his drinks, so when the waiter served him his southern comfort and tonic without the brandy glass he'd specifically requested, he erupted with "Well, fella, you can shove this up your ass!" Grandma's even funnier though: she smiles serenely and apologetically throughout, often with her hearing aid switched off. After being married 60 years, she must get some kind of amusement out of grandpa's Tourettesian outbursts; i.e., "Jesus, Mary and Joseph! I didn't order a goddamned side of leather!"
Now, after Air Canada fucking me over something awful (3 hour delay, 4 gate switches), I'm finally at Carrie's in Borth. I took the Underground, which was definitely less crowded and more subdued that usual because of the bombings last week, and it took over an hour for me to get to Euston Station since the Circle Line is still closed. Almost missed the train to Aber after they switched stations, but I got to Borth and lugged my Behemoth of a suitcase up the hill and up a flight of stairs into Carrie's flat. I was a sweaty pig by then but at least it was over.
Tomorrow's plan: Bussing into Aber, getting keys cut, picking up any essentials from the flat in town, grocery shopping, going on the piss with Jas, Eve, and friends.
Better get rested up.
