Hectic does not even begin to describe the last five days! I just hauled the last of my shit to the new flat, 25 Eastgate Street. Then I got a haircut and checked the train times. Looks like it's on to Gatwick for a long overnighter. Yesterday I went for Sunday lunch at the seafront Carvery with Jasmine, Rob, Jim, and his friends. Then I made a few more trips to the new flat and unloaded it all. I cleaned my room, which is small but not bad and has an interesting view of the great wall and people's back gardens. My bed is broken and I have no room key so Philip Evans has some work to do. And we discovered water leaking from the sink and into the walls, so they'd better fix that asap. Jim came back to Aber last night--he couldn't believe how strange Grosvenor House is now that the new girl, her boyfriend, two little brothers and bitch of a mother have moved in. The family are leaving tomorrow, apparently. We met up with Derek and Alice for a drink at Rummers. When we got back to Grosvenor House Jim shared some really nice Somerset apple brandy with me and showed me some of his grandfather's poetry.
Right, going back to Friday: I spent most of the day packing all of my belongings and cleaning the dump that is Grosvenor House. I headed to work at 9:30 and worked a grueling 5 and 1/2 hour shift. It was the Union's last night and the place was rammed. You'd think that after waiting to get to the bar for 20 minutes you'd know what you wanted by the time you were served. A surprising number didn't, which made everyone even more impatient. My feet and back were killing me by the time we finished, but at least I got a ride home. It was 4 o'clock when I got in the door and Grace was still up packing--I've never seen so much stuff! She was particularly stressed because the girl taking her room was expected at 9 the next morning! And sure enough, we were all woken up at 9 when the girl and her whole damn family showed up. And the mother was a bitch. She's South African and tried to give us a hard time for the place being a dump. Don't blame us--talk to the landlords and blame your daughter for picking the place! And it's not our problem that the girl was kicked out of halls by 10; Grace did leave on Saturday but she certainly was not about to vacate by 10 in the morning. So that pissed the mother off too. We spent the next four hours cleaning the house. I washed a shitload of dishes, scrubbed our disgraceful fridge, cleaned out my cupboard, and mopped and swept the kitchen floor. By then it was 2 and I headed up the hill to Cwrt Mawr Bar for the end-of-year Union staff party and got pissed the rest of the afternoon--for free! I had 2 pints, 4 shots of baileys, 1 double apple sourz&lemonade, 1 triple passoa&lemonade, and 3 alcopops. And I had three burgers (which were tiny and gross, leftover Underground stock). I got to know this boy, Carl, who's only just come back to the Union after doing his year abroad in France. He's really cool and he showed up to the party made up like a tiger. (We were encouraged to dress up in circus theme). He was impressed that I'd learned Welsh (he's Welsh but from Hull, Yorkshire) and said I was the most interesting American he's met. He said he met a lot of Americans in France and they were all really boring. Then we all headed to Yr Hen Llew Du, the really Welsh pub. Carl and I got bored so I said he could come with me to the Inn on the Pier, where Jasmine, Hannah, Rob and their friends were. I had an additional southern comfort&coke, which I spilt on myself! We moved on to the Varsity where we had 2 shots of something sickly sweet and an alcopop. Then Carl went home and I continued on to Pier Pressure with Jasmine and Rob. That was interesting but the Pier on Saturday nights is full of locals. Afterwards, we headed back to Jasmine's flat for a spliff and a toke on the shisha. I dreaded going back to Grosvenor House which was occupied by 6 strangers, half of whom were children, so Jasmine let me crash at hers. I went out with Jasmine and Hannah and Rob on Thursday night as well, to Rummers and Yokos. Jasmine ended up pulling a young local called Jason who was fit but a bit dense. His friend tried it on with me but I wasn't impressed. Jas and Jason went back to hers and she later told me that her ex Greg walked in on them! How the hell he got into her house I don't know. He later apologised but how awkward must that have been!
I know I've said Sion is a fool before, but I think it needs saying again. I texted him on Friday with "You fancy meeting up for a drink tomorrow night?xx" He didn't reply until 10 Saturday night, when I was at Inn on the Pier, and said "Sorry, I'm only getting back now. How was moving today hope it went well. I'm gonna have a quiet night in, had a tiring day.x" And he knows I'm leaving today. I'm not pissed off; if his behaviour made any sense it would almost be amusing. I showed the text to Jasmine, Rob, and her flatmate Jim and they were amazed, especially the boys. Jim was incredulous and said, "Well, Rose, just know that I'm not one to EVER turn down sex." Good for you, Jim. Not so good for Sion, evidently. Fuck knows what his problem is but at least he knows he missed out.
Time to wander around Aber for a couple of hours. Maybe I'll take a nap in the Old College....
