So obviously, it's time to do one.
Let's see.... the past month. Well, Heather and I are still doing quite well in Canton. Not much to do here, though we found bowling to be quite amusing the other night, that could be a good way to entertain ourselves.
Our biggest thing that we've done in the past month is to file for Heather's permanent residency. A few weeks ago I discovered some new information that convinced me we would be best served to get the whole deal done with as soon as we could. I had originally thought that Heather could work while the paperwork was being processed, but it turns out that her status changes when she files..
Anyway, I don't think you all want to hear about all this stuff. If anyone ever DOES want to know how someone goes about getting permanent residency status, please, ask me. I've read so much and filled out so much (Heather too.... some papers more than once) that I feel I should have gotten a law degree for all of it.
So, it looks like Heather and I are in a good area of the country. In some places, processing our particular type of case can take around half a year, maybe more or less depending on if complications arise. In our area though, (either the Buffalo or Albany office) cases like ours look to take around 50-80 days, or have in the past few years. We decided to file our papers as quickly as we could when we found this out, in the hope that we'd be able to go home for the holidays. Heather hasn't been able to go back to Canada due to her status being what it was (and what it will be until the paperwork is resolved), and going to Michigan without driving through Canada from where we live is a really major hassle.
So, we got the papers in around the end of October, so we're keeping our fingers crossed. We'll still have to go through an interview before it's all over, but hopefully that won't be too bad. Hopefully we'll see some of you around Christmastime. If not, I'm sure we'll all meet again in Spaceballs 2, the search for more money.
In other news, there are elections tomorrow. Now, I'm only going to say this 3 or 4 times.
GO VOTE
I know there are plenty of reasons not to. You hate both candidates. You're sick of politics. You're sick of negative ads. You're sick of a lot of stuff. And frankly, those are all good reasons not to vote. Regardless...
GO VOTE
Look, here's the deal. Democracy, in all its beauty and wonder, works on the singular idea that, every 2 years, we, THE PEOPLE, decide what our government will do. Sure, after the votes are in, they do whatever the crap they want, but on this one day, tomorrow, all those a**holes (and the good representatives) in Washington are forced to listen to us and convince us why we should employ them. That's right, they work for US.
GO VOTE
So, use it or lose it. And I hope everyone has a fun election day.
Quote of the day:
"If I'm talking to someone about politics, I always ask them first "Did you vote last time?" If they answer no, I don't listen to them. You only get to complain about politics if you actually voted for the people in office "
