Give me a few more weeks and I'll get started on the "Goodwill Collection".

(This will be from fabric I bought at the Goodwill stores.)

I can't wait until I can do some sewing and crafting. Tim has had the dining table (the only place I can use my sewing machine) occupied with seeding flats and transplanting wee plants. He's got a continuous stream of baby lettuces and bok choy etc going, on a folding table in the other area that was *supposed* to be my crafting area and I lost that years ago.

Sounds like the pair of you have had plenty of salads and stir fries this summer.

I will keep my fingers crossed that you get the use of your table back after the first frost!

What would you like to make first???

I was 125% sure that I wanted to make a button-up skirt out of the chambray comforter cover last night but I have so many ideas that are busy trying to squeeze past the skirt idea that I'm no longer certain what I want to make out of it.

What would you make out of it?

First thing I have to do is a ton of mending and altering- I haven't even thought about what to make anew. I'm leery of making anything I can't later alter, because I have gained weight and still think I can slim back down (hahahahaha) So I'm not going to use one of my special fabrics until I see, one way or another, what my figure will be. Right now I've got a gut on me that looks like I'm 8 months pregnant. The doctor says I can rearrange my fat distribution by doing strenuous exercise- we shall see. Part of the problem is that most anything is strenuous to me, what with the fibro and constantly being exhausted. But I'm will to give it a try. First the exercise bike must be dug out... I can't run my body just says "NO" so the bike it is.

I'm not sure how heavy chambray is, so I don't know what I'd make with it. Is that like workshirt heavy? Is the comforter big enough to make a house dress? Things like that are on my mind, although I certainly don't *need* them since they'd be harder to take in than a skirt or shirt. But I just ( ... )

My chambray is slightly less heavy that the chambray shirts that were so popular back in the 70's. I'm thankful that it was made of fabric that was meant to last seeing that it was made for use on a bed rather than as clothing. It's also been washed several times so I have no fear of it shrinking, so it's ready to be cut and sewn!

The only drawback is that the comforter cover has turned out to only be twin-size rather than full, so I will probably only be able to make a long sleeved shirt out of it. I will be able to cut it extra long, I think.

Alas, my seam-ripper is no longer speaking to me after having been forced to seam rip that comforter cover as well as a cross-shaped chair cover this afternoon.

Mulching really does wonders. I was able to pick up some free wood chips last week.

You made an excellent find!

Free wood chips are hard to find in my area.

Yes, I love wood chips. I used to buy an entire dump truck load from an arborist every year, but I don't use as many wood chips any more.

Arborists dump their spare chips by a dog park on the north side, but that isn't just down the street like these were.

I plan on spreading the current wood chips and picking up another car load tomorrow if I can manage.Wisconsin has a lot of trees, so these are not a rare commodity. Unfortunately, the arborists all charge for them now because they have come so popular.I prefer an arborist's chips above the bagged-up and colored chips.

The fresh arborist chips have a lot of microbes and beneficial bacteria.

"The fresh arborist chips have a lot of microbes and beneficial bacteria."

Best of all, those chips come without the chemical preservatives that the bagged up chips have in them.

(If my nose is any judge!)
