This is a musing for the writers out there. Do you find that your protagonists tend to come out in a specific gender?
Now I know that in writing you have lots of main and strong secondary characters. And they can be a wide range of genders (there can be more than two depnding on who you talk to) but do you tend to run into a trend where your most colorful characters, the ones who talk to you most tend to be one gender?
Case in point: I've got a few male protagonists around, but most of the stories that I've written tend to have female protagonists. Now I'm not claiming that I write women well, I leave that for others to judge, but the stories that I have finished and had the easiest time writing tend to have women as the main characters.
Also how easy is it for you to work with characters of genders other than your own?
