Dark Side's workshops with
sahirazedare went really well yesterday. Sahira's a fantastic teacher who always seems to be having such a good time that it's impossible not to enjoy her classes-- and all the popping, locking, leaping, and spinning we did was such fun that both workshops flew by. The show last night was a little small (both in lineup and audience, as we were up against the usual 9 million other things to do in Bloomington on a Saturday night, plus a dance show in Ft. Wayne that most of our Indy-based dance sisters were committed to), but it was rather nice to have a shorter, more intimate show. All of the performances brought something different and interesting to the evening, and the audience was great. I really enjoyed
she_oft_sings's lyrical and funky fusion solo, and
we_are_pliable and Bridget did me proud with a stellar rendition of my "Caravan" choreography. Dark Side had fun performing to Gypsy Caravan's "Queen of Hell" (one of our perennial favorite songs), but adding a new dark narrative twist to it. Sahira, of course, was as mind-blowing as always, performing a marathon set that included double veil work, dancing with a basket of flowers on her head and working the hell out of a Moby song with a 1000 bpm tempo.
I also enjoyed finally having time to hang out with Sahira and show her some of my favorite places in Bloomington. Usually we see each other at workshops and only have a few minutes here and there to catch up and chat, so it was great to get some non-dance time together too.
As much fun as all that was, it's nice to have a day off, finally! I went down to May's Greenhouse and got various kinds of dirt for further container gardening, and then came to the Bakehouse for knitting group, though I was late and nobody else was here knitting when I arrived. :( Ah well.
In non-dance, actual-work-related news (what?), the newest issue of
Black Grooves is up, including my review of
Santogold's eponymous debut solo album. (Which, by the way, kicks so much ass that it's almost the only thing I've listened to on my iPod in the last three weeks.)
