Travel, part 1
After a crazy weekend of running around Spring Mill State Park, Dark Side's spring hafla, and packing up the cat and hedgehog to go to camp the DWL, I am now in MD. Yesterday's drive turned into the new record for Longest and Most Annoying Drive to Maryland Evar, with the special added bonus of seeming more like a boat trip than a car trip, thanks to the weather. 14 hours all told, through 500 miles of nonstop pouring rain plus 2.5 hours of pointless and inexplicable stop-and-go traffic in central Ohio. $120 in gas for one day's driving. Thankfully I had an audiobook version of Neil Gaiman's American Gods to listen to, so I wasn't too bored, but by the time I arrived at my parents' house, I was so tired that I was dizzy (though not particularly sleepy.) I hate driving in the dark when it's raining. Ah well. I went to bed pretty soon after arriving and slept for 12 hours.
So I'm here for a few days, to meet The Nephewt and hopefully see some of my MD friends (rmartin_justme, staysonpaper, redhairedgirl69, and laughing_muse, I'm looking at you!) Then on Thursday, I drive up to Northampton, MA, for my 10-year college reunion, where I get to see innostrantsa, la_monday, annilita, and others. After that, I kidnap innostrantsa and take her to Nantucket for a week of knitting and loafing on the (probably still pretty cold and grey, but lovely) beach. I'll be back in Bloomington on Memorial Day or so.
