I'm sitting here waiting for my morning class to start, and I look over to check the time on the wall clock. My thought? Huh, those always look the exact same no matter what classroom you go in. I wonder if they're like, the bulk classroom-standard clock? Maybe there's a classroom clock company. Yes. I clearly need caffeine. Or something. This building is kind of old, but I've noticed that all of them seem to be that way. It still has an honest-to-God chalkboard and manual pencil sharpener. And a row of coathooks along the wall. I kid you not. It feels like grade-school. Almost done with classes for the summer. I have another week. I've registered for three classes in the fall; two history and one poli-sci.
Has anyone seen the new movie Inception? I really want to see it, but I kind of feel like a loser going to a movie by myself. Waah, you guys all moved away! Someone in my geoscience class said the movie was really good, and the previews Jen and I saw looked neat. Nothing on the job front, sadly, but one thing at a time.
Two tests tomorrow. Need to study tonight.
I'm feeling really nostalgic for The West Wing today. Oh, show. I miss your idealism, your snappy dialogue, your smart, dorky, funny, passionate characters, and your political escapism. In honour of my favourite show ever, a quote.
Shallick: ...right to keep and bear arms...
Toby: It doesn't really say that.
Shallick: Toby!
Toby: In fact, it doesn't say that at all. The only way it says that at all is if you remove some words from it...
Toby: It says a well-regulated militia, being necessary for the security of the free state...the government shall not infringe. The words 'regulated' and militia are in the first sentence. I don't think the framers were thinking of three guys in a Dodge Durango.
Shallick: Well, you don't really know what the framers were thinking, do you?
Toby: No. But I do know that if you combine the populations of Great Britain, France, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, and Australia, you've got a population roughly the size of the United States'. We had 32,000 gun deaths last year and they had 112. Do you think it's because Americans are more homicidal by nature? Or do you think it's because those guys have gun control laws?
