Adopt-a-WIP

Jan 08, 2011 17:06

There ought to be a place to put up abandoned WIPs for adoption. I've been going through my old story folders, and there are so many unfinished stories that I still like the idea of very much, but will never finish...*

Cut for longish list of abandoned WIPs... )

tokyo babylon, eroica, harry potter, weiss kreuz, once a thief, x 1999, x-files, highlander, writing, other fandoms, supernatural, smallville, due south, wip amnesty

Good point - and I do like some amnesia fic... although I don't have a particular weakness for that particular cliché, quite unlike, say, the "undercover in a gay bar" one. :-)

In the case of that particular story, it was really more a problem of *everything* combining into a horribly embarrassing whole. But in my defense, I think it was entirely in the tradition of ST:VOY fanfic! I pretty much just ran with it...

A non-aging Paris? Like an immortal...? (Hey, HL crossovers are practically obligatory for every fandom...)

Yeah, I also liked the ST:VOY fanfic way more than the canon. Paris/Chakotay was the first slash pairing I really read extensively, and my standards were very low - I was still in the first glow of "wow, this exists!!" enthusiasm. :-) I remember I was wowed by The Left Hand of Madness, for example, and even read a really really long epic of highly dubious quality (I remember only that it featured about 20 pages of Chakotay climbing up some kind of cliff carrying the severely injured Paris, who periodically regained consciousness and then fainted again).

Ooh, RPS? Who is it? Do tell! :-)

And Vampire Diaries, hm...? I think I tried to watch the first ep of that, but gave up. Should I try again?

I don't know who those guys are, so I'm not cringing. :-) And you should definitely post it! There are sure to be fans who'll be happy to read it...

If you're too embarrassed, you can always use a pseud. :-)

Hm, okay, maybe I'll give TVD another chance. I also gave up during the first 20 minutes or so because it was SO clichéd and heavy-handed that I just couldn't stand the contact embarrassment anymore. Plus, I thought every single character was a grand-standing self-important Mary Sue douche, which... didn't help. ;-)

Hot and Fremdschämen in combination sounds kind of scary. :-) But I will see if I manage to get that far! And I'll get back to you on all the superpowered speechifying Mary Sues. *g*

Apropos of not much, have you seen Warehouse 13? I'm only at ep3 right now, but so far it seems like a possibly very cool show - with a lot of affectionate satire of XF (and others).
