Meme of Procrastination!
The Hypothetical AU Meme: Take any one of the fandoms you know I write in (or think I should), and give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, Ancient Rome, etc). I will then explain what story from your chosen fandom I would write for your chosen type of AU.
It's also a SF AU! Nishikido Ryo is a young prospector on a ship searching for valuable ores and gasses in a remote nebula - and to help keep the prospectors healthy and sane on the long, long journey, the company has helpfully provided a half dozen slaves trained to provide entertainment in a number of ways... not merely in bed, although that is, of course, one of the most popular services.
Captain Akanishi soon monopolizes Kame, the most accomplished and popular of the slaves. Typical high-handed Akanishi behavior, but what can you do? So then everyone else is left to squabble over the rest, and when the dust settles Ryo finds himself left with the too tall, too thin, too awkward one with the mysterious scars, who seems to have no clue how a proper slave should behave, and who doesn't seem to be particularly accomplished at anything except acrobatics (which, seriously, that's nice and everything but couldn't he at least be better at cooking and cleaning??).
But there is a dark secret in Junno's past, and an explanation for his aptitude for repairing survey equipment, and why he wakes up with nightmares, and why he seems to know more about the dreaded space pirates than he wants to let on...

Shouldn't it be 'dread space pirates'? Or am I just weird? The Dread Space Pirate Gackt... maybe?

If it's a part of their name, then Dread sounds more dreadful. :-) But in this instance I was merely exptressing the general attitude of prospectors like Ryo towards them...

Gackt is the Dread Space Pirate General - too much time spent in too shoddily shielded ships has bleached his eyes and hair and rendered him slightly insane, but hasn't slowed him down any.

It's not that Junno's not nice to look at or anything, because he kind of is. It's just...
But that doesn't mean that Senior Specialist Nakamaru can get all grabby like that.

Yeah, you expect slaves to be whipped sometimes, at least if they're as inept as Junno is... and he does have some scars like that. But then there's the other kind, and Ryo isn't an expert in scars, but it kind of looks - except it can't be, of course, because who shoots at a leisure&body slave with a disruptor pistol?
This could be fun...
