X-Files Reboot

Apparently, Fox is bringing back The X-Files, and have Duchovny and Anderson locked down - as well as Chris Carter.

So do they plan to pick up where they left off at the end of the trainwreck, or simply retcon that BS out of existence and start an entirely new trainwreck?

In short:

That's how I feel every time they threaten to reboot Blakes7.

Did B7 also jump the shark at some point? Or do you fear the reboot would do it?

XF was just... so unbelievably bad at the end, and I am certain the creator would only make things even worse if given another shot. At some point, they should just let XF rest. Maybe with time, the memory of the horrible end will fade into obscurity, and the earlier, good seasons will be the only thing left.

Season 4 was unbelievably grim, but it was necessary to set us up for the final episode. I'm a huge Avon fan, and I honestly don't know who could replace Paul Darrow in the role. The latest reboot was supposed to be about a soldier who is angry at the Federation for killing his wife. In "real" B7, Blake is (well, it's not clear in the TV show, but Word of God is that he's an engineer) who has multiple grievances against the Federation, including the deaths of his siblings.

A series that is complete in itself - and that *didn't* somehow go down the drain during the original run - is a rare enough thing! And finding actors to step into the boots of the original ones... ack.

It's tough to trust showrunners. Sequels, remakes and other attempts to capitalize on the original famous name always run the risk of tarnishing the enjoyment of the original for me. I usually feel it's better to just let the original stand on its own.

What I read was that if they did it, it would definitely be with David and Gillian, but that no one is locked down yet because it might be hard to get them all together, that Gillian lives in London and isn't sure she could commit to an actual series instead of a movie.

Ah, I see. Well, I almost hope Gillian can't make it work with her schedule, because then at least she will be well quit of the inevitable mess.

I DO WANT IT!! I WANT IT SO BAD.

As long as it's NOT like the last movie - that was dumb. But I think a 10 episode season could be absolutely fantastic.

I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic

Good for you! *g* It's a comforting thought that at least some fans will be happy if this does go through. :-)

hahaha which means it'll probably suck. I'm never excited for these things - always have a resigned horror....but I dunno. XFIles could work.

Yeah I just don't think it'll be good, not with how the last few seasons went and the final movie.

Same here. I have lost all trust in the XF "creative" team, and am convinced they will find a way to make the show suck harder than it ever dreamed it could suck.
