X-Files Reboot

Apparently, Fox is bringing back The X-Files, and have Duchovny and Anderson locked down - as well as Chris Carter.

So do they plan to pick up where they left off at the end of the trainwreck, or simply retcon that BS out of existence and start an entirely new trainwreck?

In short:

That's how I feel every time they threaten to reboot Blakes7.

Did B7 also jump the shark at some point? Or do you fear the reboot would do it?

XF was just... so unbelievably bad at the end, and I am certain the creator would only make things even worse if given another shot. At some point, they should just let XF rest. Maybe with time, the memory of the horrible end will fade into obscurity, and the earlier, good seasons will be the only thing left.

Season 4 was unbelievably grim, but it was necessary to set us up for the final episode. I'm a huge Avon fan, and I honestly don't know who could replace Paul Darrow in the role. The latest reboot was supposed to be about a soldier who is angry at the Federation for killing his wife. In "real" B7, Blake is (well, it's not clear in the TV show, but Word of God is that he's an engineer) who has multiple grievances against the Federation, including the deaths of his siblings.

A series that is complete in itself - and that *didn't* somehow go down the drain during the original run - is a rare enough thing! And finding actors to step into the boots of the original ones... ack.

It's tough to trust showrunners. Sequels, remakes and other attempts to capitalize on the original famous name always run the risk of tarnishing the enjoyment of the original for me. I usually feel it's better to just let the original stand on its own.

And, although there's no R1 DVD release (thanks, TPTB! Because, why sell things to people who want to buy them?) it's still perfectly possible to see the original, it's not like it was destroyed in the Library of Alexandria and they have to reconstruct it from fragments.

Sadly enough, it's probably true (as I assume TPTB reason) that a majority of the current target viewer groups won't be interested in watching an "old" series, while they might well be induced to watch a reboot, if it was slick and glossy enough.

I'm discovering more and more that a surprisingly large number of viewers watch for exactly the things they're being given by TPTB: pretty people, slick and glossy, fast-moving productions, elaborate action scenes, and spectacular special effects. Plot, characterization and acting seem to take a back seat.

Still no reason not to release a DVD for fans of the original series, though. They'd still sell a good amount, and you'd think it'd be an easy way to make a bit of money.

When a series is canceled, they're not going to get any more revenue from it, so you'd think they'd sell cheapie DVDs with the episodes that never ran! I still wish I could see the other three episodes of The Playboy Club.
